Past Indefinite Tense
Definition/Introduction
The past indefinite tense also referred to as simple past,
is employed to point a finished or completed action/task that occurred/happened
at a selected point in time within the past. ‘A specific time’ is often
diverse and may cover an extended period of your time but it can't be
undeterminable.

►An action occurred just a little while ago
Example:
• I ate a banana.
• He caught a bird in the bushes.
• I met a friend in the shop.
►An action which occurred on a regular basis in the past
Example:
• She worked in my office.
• The people paid fewer taxes in the past.
• The people believed in the superstitious.
Structure of the Past Indefinite Tense
Main verb: Past simple form (2nd form of the verb)

►Note:
• The second form of the verb is only used in a positive sentence.
• In negative and Interrogative sentences 1st form of the verb will be used.
Positive Sentence
Subject + Main verb + Object
Subject + Past Participle ( second form of verb) + Object.
►Example:
• She cleaned her home.
• She laughed to see her painting.
• You passed the exam.
• He asked me about my studies.
• He played the game properly.
• She cooked food for guests.
• She met me in the classroom.
• I ate my meal.
• He applied for a job.
• I sold a mobile phone.
Negative Sentence
Subject + Auxiliary verb + Not + Main verb + Object
Subject + Did + Not + 1st form of the verb + Object.
►Examples:
• He did not like the movie.
• She did not complete her work.
• He did not make a painting.
• They did not come here.
• You did not help her.
• He did not eat the food.
• She did not go to school.
• He did not buy a laptop.
• She did not find any job.
• He did not pass the interview.

Interrogative Sentence
Auxiliary verb + Subject + Main verb + Object
Did + Subject + 1st form of the verb + Object.
►Examples:
• Did she come here?
• Did he sing a song?
• Did he buy a book?
• Did she call him?
• Did they laugh?
• Did you watch the drama?
• Did he reach in his home?
• Did she bring her books?
• Did you apply for the new job?
• Did they meet you?
