Past Continuous Tense
Definition/Introduction
The past progressive tense is employed to explain actions that began within the past and sometimes continued for a brief period of your time after the action started. This tense describes actions or events that happened at a selected time within the past. These actions are usually not happening at the time the sentence is being said or written.

This Tense is also called " Past Progressive Tense".
Structure of the Past Continuous Tense
Main verb: Present Participle (First form of verb+ing ) e.g, eating, drinking.
Auxiliary verb: Was / Were.

►Note:
• If the subject of the sentence is "He, She, It" or singular noun then we use helping verb "Was" in the sentence.
• If the subject of the sentence is "We, You, They" or plural noun then we use helping verb "Were" in the sentence.
Positive Sentence
Subject + Auxiliary verb + Main verb + Object.
Subject + was/were + Main verb (+ing) + Object.
►Examples:
• She was eating her food.
• They were planing about their studies.
• You were smiling to see me.
• The dog was barking at her.
• He was making preparation for his interview.
• She was driving her cycle.
• She was writing a letter.
• They were waiting for us.
Negative Sentence
Subject + Auxiliary verb + Not + Main verb + Object.
►Examples:
• They were not playing in the ground.
• She was not walking alone.
• He was not reading the novel.
• He was not decorating his room.
• The snack was not running toward you.
• She was not driving carefully.
• They were not shouting.
• Navila was not washing her clothes.
• They were not sleeping.
• I was not expecting such foolish behavior from him.

Interrogative Sentence
Auxiliary verb + Subject + Main verb + Object.
►Examples:
• Was I answering him correctly?
• Were they working in that office?
• Was she walking on the road?
• Was he listening to you?
• Were the people shouting at him?
• Was I calling you?
• Were you asking something?
• Was she singing a song?
• Were they coming to their home?
• Was she going to her school?
